The jardin des plantes

Enjoy a lush green space right in the town centre at the Jardin des Plantes. With its mix of French, English and Italian styles, the park takes you on a tour of Europe. Every year it hosts a programme of events, starting in spring with the festival Jazz sous les Pommiers, a celebration of jazz music.

The Quesnel-Morinière museum

If you visit the Jardin des Plantes, be sure to stop at the Quesnel-Morinière museum, found in a grand 17th century townhouse. With fine art, graphic art, folk art, sculpture, ceramics, and much more, there’s plenty to see. The museum hosts a permanent collection as well as temporary exhibitions and workshops for all ages.

The theatre

Coutances

If you love culture, the theatre in Coutances is the place for you! It has a rich and varied programme, with plays, dance performances, comedians, concerts and more. The theatre in Coutances also hosts the Jazz sous les Pommiers festival, which is usually held over the Ascension weekend. Latin jazz, electro jazz, blues, funk and soul: celebrating the different styles of jazz music is what this festive event is all about.

A stroll in the old streets of the town centre 

Enjoy a stroll around this small historic town and browse the lovely independent boutiques that are part of its appeal. If you want to stock up on local products, take a look at the market, which is held on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons as well as on Thursday and Saturday mornings.

How to get to Coutances

By train, Coutances can be reached from Paris, Rennes, Caen and Granville.

By car, the town is accessed by main roads from Caen, Rennes and Cherbourg.

From Coutances, you can quickly get to the coast on the Nomad buses. In summer, additional shuttle buses run to the beaches along the Côte des Havres.
