AGON-COUTAINVILLE

Are you ready for a 23 km stage around Regnéville inlet with its unspoilt landscapes and wide-open spaces? From the centre of the seaside resort of Agon-Coutainville, head along the seafront towards the dunes. Walk on the beach past Le Passous sailing school. After the wooden chalet, cross a grove of trees to join the coastal path, taking Chemin de la Buttière. From there, head towards the wild Pointe d’Agon-Coutainville. Then follow the GR223 through the dunes and walk through a pretty grove of pine trees. Before you, you’ll see the Lechanteur monument and the famous Agon lighthouse with its red lantern. Carry on in that direction towards the orientation table and enjoy the view of the dunes and the sea stretching as far as the eye can see on your right, and on your left, Regnéville inlet with its little boats.

From Agon lighthouse, cross the road towards the salt meadows on the edge of Regnéville inlet. You’ll walk along the estuary for 2.5 km, accompanied by free-roaming sheep. Make sure you shut any gates along the path. Then leave the inlet on the left and follow the road to the edge of Tourville marsh, and on to the little bridge. Carry on towards the church in Heugueville-sur-Sienne following the coastal path close to the D650. Leave the little village on your left and continue to follow the inlet for 800 m. Here, you’ll cross the saltmarshes again, climbing over stiles, before arriving at the Pont de la Roque.

Enjoy a break at the bridge, where you’ll find picnic tables, before heading off again for the last part of this stage. Take the grassy path next to the fields towards the saltmarshes. Once again, sheep will be your travelling companions! Now walk along the other side of the inlet towards the village of Regnéville-sur-Mer. Go through the gate on your left and carry on for 50 m before turning right and taking the D249 towards Le Prey. Note: at high tide, it’s better to go inland following the D156 then the D249.

You’re on the last stretch! Take the path that leads through the inlet, go through the little gate and walk across the salt meadows. From here, there’s a wonderful view of the Pointe d’Agon and the Sienne estuary. You can admire some of the path you’ve walked since the start of this stage opposite you. Leave the salt meadows and take the D156 towards the slipway. Carry on to the municipal campsite in Regnéville, with its panoramic view. Finally, you’ll arrive at the Château de Regnéville-sur-Mer. Enjoy a stroll around this old fishing village with its picturesque charm.
