Mont Castre

On the western edge of the Parc Naturel Régional des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin, Mont Castre is part of a chain of hills of major importance in the history of the Cotentin region. Perched at 130 m, it was a strategic defense point from Gallo-Roman times right up to the Second World War, when it held out for a long time during the Bataille des Haies in July 1944.

A former stone quarry transformed into a pond, the site today offers a remarkable natural setting, with panoramic views, an orientation table and Neolithic, Gallo-Roman and medieval remains.

Ideal for a family outing, the site offers a 3 km loop, signposted, to explore its heritage. The site is also the starting point for the "Les vieilles pierres du mont Castre" hiking trail.

Also on site: a playground, picnic area and, in season, a refreshment bar and pedal boats. Parking and toilets on site. Dog-friendly site.

Located just a few kilometers from La Haye and close to the greenway, the site is easily accessible, including by bike.
The site is signposted from the D903 between La Haye-du-Puits and Carentan.
