At the western end of the Cotentin peninsula, on the edge of the world, lies the village of Goury.
Its lighthouse stands in the open sea, facing the port and its unique SNSM lifeboat station, with its octagonal shape and two slipways.
As the gateway to the Golf Stream and the Raz Blanchard, it's a majestic sight in the middle of a storm. This is one of Europe's strongest currents, feared by sailors with speeds of up to 12 knots (22km/h).
