in the rural setting of the Roches de Ham
The Roches de Ham is a natural site located in the Normandy countryside close to Saint-Lô. These shale cliffs stand at 105 metres high, with a spectacular view of the Vire valley.
Kayaking on the River Vire
Kayaking is a popular activity in the Vire valley. The outdoor leisure park in Condé-sur-Vire, very close to the Roches de Ham, offers trips on the River Vire. You can choose between several distances: 4, 6 or even 12 km for seasoned paddlers! You can hire kayaks or canoes, and 10-seater canoes are available for groups.
For the more energetic visitors, a trail run is organised every year in late October (10 and 21 km). The Roches de Ham are also the ideal place to train and to push your limits on the steep paths and descents.
Archery, climbing, paddleboarding: take your pick of the activities on offer
Other outdoor activities such as archery, climbing, paddleboarding and mountain biking are available. These are also organised by the watersports centre. As you can see, the Roches de Ham are an ideal spot to get away from it all in the great outdoors!
If you love walking, then this place is perfect, with several hiking trails for you to test. You could try the 8 km circular route starting at the Roches de Ham. You might meet cyclists and horse riders following the towpath along the River Vire, or people kayaking down the river.
By car, take the country roads towards Condé-sur-Vire and Brectouville. A car park is available for visitors to the site. Just a short walk from there takes you to the panoramic view and a complete change of scenery!
The Roches de Ham are accessible in any weather and any season. We recommend visiting in early autumn, when the magical colours of the leaves make the view even more spectacular. Spring is also a lovely time to visit, when the flowers begin to bloom.
You can also treat yourself to a savoury galette or a sweet crêpe and enjoy the view from the panoramic terrace. The crêperie at the Roches de Ham is a lovely spot with delicious treats for all the family!
