SHOW IN PORTUGUESE/BRAZILIAN WITH FRENCH SURTITLES
An earthy, solar theatrical thriller: popularized on the silver screen by Xavier Dolan, Tom à la ferme is first and foremost a play written by Quebecer Michel Marc Bouchard, whose multi-awarded Brazilian production offers a powerfully beautiful and visceral version.
The story is that of Tom, a young urban homosexual. After the death of his lover in a car accident, he decides to go, uninvited, to his companion?s funeral in the remote countryside. At the family farm, he meets the deceased?s devastated mother, who knows nothing of her son?s sexual orientation. He also meets the deceased?s brother, a virile, violent farmer who insists that Tom hide their relationship from his grieving mother.
On this farm, lies are the primary condition for survival.
Worthy of the best thrillers, masterfully constructed, this play, beyond its drama of homophobia, is of tragic grandeur and universal scope.
This is a play of violent beauty bordering on the sublime, and an exceptional moment in theater.
