SAINT-LO

Join us on February 08 at 8.30pm at the Saint-Lô theater for the show "Molo (Kehya)" by the Tenseï company.

Dancer and choreographer Rafael Smadja explores themes of heritage through the preparation of molokheya, a traditional Egyptian soup. Molo(kheya) traces a piece of history, the life of a family from the Egyptian diaspora who arrived in France in the 1950s, and is inspired by the life of Mary Soffer, his maternal grandmother. He recorded hours of discussions with her, extracting what represents her, what speaks of her, her history, her memories, her anchorage in the present. He gives us a glimpse of the range of her emotions as a woman caring for a family she sees herself as the guardian of. Mary takes us on a journey
full of tenderness, laughter and pragmatism, between memories and reality. Rafael Smadja bears sensitive witness to the movement of human beings, to what they leave behind, what they find and what they pass on. His dance, a blend of hip hop, recordings, object theater, voice, music and cuisine, is warm, funny and moving.
