What if one morning you found a court summons in your mailbox?
You've been drawn as a juror for a trial?
In 2012, after years of domestic violence, Jacqueline Sauvage shot her husband dead. The play looks at this famous court case solely from the point of view of the randomly selected jurors on the Court of Appeal.
There are no courtroom scenes, no trial re-enactments, but rather a series of portraits of jurors with a beautiful humanity, living through an experience that will bring about a profound change in them.
Being a juror isn't easy. Between morality, criminal law, personal conviction, emotions, logic and evidence, the viewer (like the juror) finds his or her own way, throwing certainties to the wind. The experience of being called as a juror leaves its mark, and questions the possibility of a collective solution. Why was I chosen? Who am I to convict or acquit? How can my everyday worries coexist with this tragedy?
Au loin les oiseaux raises the question of how can and should we judge?
