Engravings.

Mathilde Loisel was born in 1980. She studied Fine Arts in Brécey and at the Lycée Littré in Avranches. After studying Art History, she discovered engraving during an Erasmus exchange in Hildesheim, Germany in 2003. The constraints of the material frees her expression and she experiments with the multiple possibilities of engraving.

In 2014, she moved back to Normandy, in the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, a return that was accompanied by a reflection on identity and her origins. She continues to develop her artistic practice in parallel with the teaching of Fine Arts until 2021 to finally assume the choice of creation.

Today Mathilde alternates between artistic residency, personal creation, publishing project and interventions around engraving.
She is inspired by the territory of her childhood, the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and more precisely Saint-Jean-le-Thomas at the end of the sea where she has anchored her engraving workshop.

The technique of linocut allows her to dig into the material with strength and restraint. The printed image keeps the imprint of this process, resulting in a form of raw delicacy conducive to the narrative.

This exhibition presents engravings that tell legends and tales from Normandy and elsewhere.

Meeting with the artist: Saturday, September 30, from 4 to 6 pm.

Free admission 7 days a week, from 9am to 7pm on weekdays - from 10am to 12:30pm and from 1:30pm to 6:30pm on weekends.
