The Hambye canvases, a local production of the 19th century saved from oblivion.
In 1820, local craftsmen began to make painted linen cloths which quickly became popular in the area. These canvases, designed to dress alcove beds, also brightened up the interiors by their very colorful aspect.
The production lasted about 50 years and was almost forgotten thanks to a few enthusiasts. Today, a remarkable collection of twelve canvases is on display in the porter's room of the abbey.
