"Between Land and Sea" - paintings
Born in Saint Malo in 1954, Dominique Dubillot studied at the Ecole d?Architecture de Normandie, where he benefited from the advice of Norman painter Robert Savary, one of whose works is on display at the Musée Anacréon in Granville.
Now retired, he and his partner have taken advantage of a family home in Marcey-les-grèves, 2 rue des pâturettes, to set up their studio.
For the past 4 years, he has been working on a project to translate a happy, luminous vision of the rural and maritime landscapes of the Avranchin region. This exhibition follows on from the one held last spring at the Bergevin studio in Avranches.
Produced following numerous walks in the Avranchin region, these paintings attempt to reveal the poetry and fragility of these places. Being a studio painting, a real liberty is taken with a realistic representation. In order to play with perspective, color and drawing, some of the paintings even retain their sketchy appearance. The liquidity and impasto of the paint play with this approach.
The exhibition brings together small- and large-format works in which paths, fields, wooded areas and trees converse with the sea, sandy beaches and rocks.
Organized in such a way that the green of rural landscapes is matched by the blue of maritime spaces, this exhibition features numerous frontal views, distant views and very close-up views, combining abstract and figurative moments.
I hope that this exhibition, like the painted works of the artists of poetic reality, translates a serene if not happy practice of painting.
