Join us at the Archives Départementales de la Manche on December 4 for the Altaïr conference "Camargue, sous les sabots" - A film by Éric Fontaneilles.
With his passion for images and travel, Éric Fontaneilles began his life as a wanderer discovering Mediterranean countries, then those of the Near East. It was inevitable that one day he would become a lecturer. His favorite subjects often refer to the history of a country, an era or a culture. His most recent reports presented at conferences were a discovery of Central European culture with his film Prague et la Bohème, and a journey through time and space with his Chemin de Compostelle, le voyage intérieur. Faithful to his Mediterranean culture, he is currently working on a secret Camargue, while making a film about the Habsburg Empire at the time of Sissi. Having reached the autumn of his life, and still with a multitude of projects, Éric Fontaneilles is resigned to only one idea: to be deprived of the last "Grand Départ".
Film summary:
In this film by Frédéric Bonnet and Éric Fontaneilles, you'll discover a secret Camargue living to the rhythm of horse and bull breeders. In wind-beaten landscapes, between the Rhone and the sea, you'll take part in the great traditional festivals and the intimate moments of a discreet population. In this land of tides, overflown by flamingos, a unique heritage and culture has developed, as these two filmmakers reveal.
The Camargue can be flown over and driven through, but it's on foot, in the marshes and reed beds, that it reveals itself, with its welcoming mosquitoes, scorching summers and mistral wind in winter. A Camargue of four seasons, secret and fascinating!
