"The Ocean of the Future", brand new in Cherbourg

New exhibition at the Cité de la Mer

 

"The Ocean of the Future": this is the name of the new zone of the Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg, opening in the spring.

 

The site opened in 2002, and this brand-new exhibit invites visitors to see the ocean in a different light, as a gigantic universe that's both fragile and threatened. With immersive and interactive experiences, all ages can embark on a journey to discover the mysterious lifeforms of the abyss.

 

The new exhibit is:

A 1400 m² zone 

18 interactive spaces

17 aquariums

1 abyssal aquarium with a depth of 10.7 m

 

WHAT'S NEW

> videos up close with dolphins, sperm whales and sharks

> interactive touch screens with games, videos and educational applications

> a touch screen that immerses visitors in a drop of water to discover the life of plankton

> descendants of dinosaurs: nautiluses, seahorses, jellyfish and morays 

> games and experiments on a tablet to learn about the abyss and interviews with the first aquanauts 

> an area on underwater archaeology and on the humanoid submarine robot "Ocean One"

> a touch screen table for choosing your oceanic meal
